Google's emerging (search?) strategy

December 20th, 2009 Hans Eilers No comments

Check out this comprehensive article by Jeff Jarvis on Google latest moves in the (post?) search space.

“Search will be customized, personalized, and targeted to us and our contexts: who we are and where and when we are asking for something. This, I think, could mean the slow death of the dark art of SEO.”

and

“I believe that’s what we’re seeing here: the start of Google’s view of itself after search.”

Enjoy :)

See the right perspective

If you think you are unhappy, look at them

If you think your salary is low, how about her?

If you think you don’t have many friends…

If you think you suffer in life, do you suffer as much as he does?

If you complain about your transport system, how about them?

Evaluating FriendFeed

May 16th, 2008 Hans Eilers 1 comment

FriendFeed aggregates content from 35 sources (no facebook?).

It then shows the feeds from these applications. I only see my own content…?

Because they use public feeds, no really interesting information is shown. Petty – kinda missing the friend in FriendFeed. Would they use my credentials to access these services, the information would become usefull for me.

For example: Picasa Web Albums contains my public albums, my private albums and albums shared with me – by my FRIENDS. I only see my public albums. That really doesn’t add any value now does it.

FriendFeed allows me to import my Gmail contacts. Then they suggest I connect with the few of them already using FriendFeed and invite the other 423 contacts to start using FriendFeed. Wow. Boring. I want them to use this contact information to automatically construct a FriendFeed for me based on the services they have access to. Automatically find sites and profiles of these friends.

Conclusion: a nice try, but not worthy of the name FriendFeed. I don’t want to invite my contacts. I don’t want to bother them. But I would like to know what they do online.

E-mail vs IM

December 19th, 2006 Hans Eilers No comments

E-mail is not always the best medium to convey business messages. We should use less internal mail and more Instant messaging. Why? Well it’s instant. You can chat with more than one person at a time – making it more efficient.

With some IM clients it’s possible to even send offline messages of message to mobile devices.
